Ring Girl

Soo, I looove my instagram! Love it! I'm pretty sure I must have expressed this to you guys at an earlier date. But yes, it's true, instagram is amazing. Infact, I am currently working on getting my instagram link up on here for y'all. It'll get there, eventually!

Anyways! I got a comment on one of my design pictures from a client looking for lingerie pieces to be photographed in a Ring Girl photoshoot. The pictures are to be place online on the Ring Girl website. They're looking for a "Ring Girl Fantasy Look", which I will be designing for them, and a lingerie piece of mine, my choice.

I just started the project. I'm actually printing out patterns to adapt now. Gotta love the new age and our printable patters, just wish it hadn't taken so long to come up with! But I figured I'd let you guys in on some of the starting details, because it may be a while til I can catch you guys up on the progress.

For the "Ring Girl Fantasy Look", I'm thinking something sporty-sexy like. The clients preferences are a halter top, boyshorts, and ruffles. So thats exactly what I plan on givin em. And the color scheme shall be Black and White

I gotta get sewing though! And sorry, but no! I'm not relieving which I'm doing....just expect...
Sport-sexy Fantasy Ring Girl!

I'll be back to catch you guys back up soon!
Til then...

Beginning of a Beauutiful Collabo! (swimwear/lingerie testshoot)

Let me begin with a little bit of a funny story....

So, I once dated this "boy" foreverr ago. We just straight up didn't work out. At all. But hey, that's life right? Not everything works out. Anywaays!.. after I broke up with him he began dating a girl from the class above us. Now me and this girl did NOT get along... honestly, it was a big misunderstanding. She had thought that I had wanted my ex back. That WAS NOT the case. You break up for reasons, ya know. But she didn't see it my way because he was still talking to me, cordially, every now n then just as a friendly gesture...(the break didn't end well needless to say). But I mean, I can understand where she was coming from, if that was my man still talking to his ex, I'd naturally be a lil concerned as well! Well being the type of person I am, I might have immaturely decided to push her buttons back, not because I wanted her guy but because she caused such a commotion over something I could truly care less about that I felt the need to be an annoying biatch and purposely instigate her just to get a few laughs. All to someone who really did nothing to me. Very IMMATURE. such a regret....
Ladies don't ever act this way! It's shameful and unclassy, unlike the lady I really am.

Wheres the humor in this lil story?

Well a few weeks ago, and we haven't spoken in just bout two yrs since the dramafest, she contacted me asking if I could design and make a few pieces for her upcoming modeling photo shoot.
Needless to say, I was SHOCKED! I mean, this was the girl I harassed purely for my own personal entertainment. And I'll admit, I was a bit apprehensive bout this because of my past drama with her., espec after the way I had shamefully acted towards her. However, after getting a bit more detail, I realized, Hey this girl means noo harm.!And come to find out.. I really get along with this girl! She's a mad kool chick with an amazing modeling body that I loove working with! And ontoppa it, she's doing me a huge favor that no one else has yet to do for me! Helping me get out there a bit! And I'm sooo thankful for it too! Its Soo amazingly nice that it really makes me think back to the way I had acted towards her those couple years ago, and ya know, I really do regret acting so immaturely and mean to someone soo harmless to me who happens to be helping me out fastforward couple yrs. I guess it just goes to show you, you dont know someone til you really know someone. Goes along with the whole karma thing and the dont judge a book by its cover. I mean in all honesty I thought we just couldnt be friends but this girl is pretty damn kool and amazingly talented and beautiful, she's totally my typa girlfriend! And I'm mooore than excited to see what this Collabo has in store for the both of us!

And just like that, it was the Beginning of a Beauutiful Collaboration!

First, I was to design a swimwear look and a lingerie look that was to be used in a test photo shoot for an upcoming Calendar Shoot....

Lingerie looks for Calender Shoot

Swimwear looks for Calendar Shoot

One-piece design chosen for Test Shoot

It was a difficult decision... I wanted to make every look I designed for Marissa! However, because it was just a "test shoot" they only needed just a couple pieces for now.

I originally decided to go with a Floral Print Bikini and a Lace Corset and and pair of boy shorts.

I must admit, this was my first attempt at swimwear and lingerie. Although I've been sewing for 9 years and have taken countless lessons and excelled above of all my college classmates, to the point where i was teaching class... I have NEVER attempted swimwear or lingerie.
And I'll tell you why, STRETCH FABRIC IS TRICKKYY!
You need to have the right machine and right stitches to sew stretch fabrics. And I have made an attempt with stretch fabric. Obviously, it was a FAILED attempt, because I never revisited it again since....
That it til now.

Now I own ALOT of sewing machines, old to new, computerized to oldfashioned technology, sergers and all. In total, I own SIX (pretty sure im forgetting one though) SEWING MACHINES! And every single one of em are my "Babygirls"! and I love them like theyre my kids. Id feel incomplete with out my machines...

<3 I'm OBSESSED -_- can't you tell??! ;*

Anywaaays... I recently got a new machine from my Aunt Cathy, she's a quilter. Its A H M A Z I N G
It's my new favorite toy! It sews stretch like its cotton! I loove it! It's never been so easy ;o

So thus began the adventure in the beautiful collaboration

I used a Kwik Sew strapless swimwear pattern for the Floral Print Bikini and added a neck tie to give the model and extra "lift". Took me a lil extra time than I would have liked for it to take, due to this being my first time constructing Swimwear and the fact that I altered it to custom fit Marissa.

But overall, I'm quuite satisfied with the finished bikini! <3

(photos from test shoot)

The lingerie corset was easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy! Piece-o-cake! Nothing super special there bout constructing a corset, pretty simple standard stuufffs

I looove it! Soo delicate soft and sweet!
My favorite detail would be the pleated trim on the bottom of the corset
( but you can't see in this pic:/ )

There! You can see it there!

aaand the undies!
(took a few attempts with lingerie elastic)

So there! These bad babies were ready to be worn and modeled! However, when I went to turn them in for the photo shoot date, the date was suddenly changed the day of. And being the sewing perfectionist that I am, I couldn't help but take advantage of the opportunity and time to get jusss oone more swimwear piece in there! And the second time around, I really impressed myself!

(on me)

Strappless cutout onesie!

Unfortunately, we ran into a little problem...
Notice the sketch and the first two pics are ~strapless~
I guess this is why the designer needs to oversea wardrobe
and I kneeew I should have tagged along to style
unfortunately I need money and was busyyy working:/
the onsie was tied around the neck to "avoid looking too sexy in a public place"
(manager's decision not model's)
as a result, the fit was thrown off and the trim misplaced and folded over:s
but hey!

ITS STILL HOTT!

glad Marissa made it work anywaays!

and she did a damn amazing job making the onsie seem like nothing was ever changed bout it

Now while I'm at it, I guess I should explain the big catch to this whole Collabo...

As of tomorrow, Tuesday, my designs will be in the hands of Marissa modeling agency so they can make a decision as to if they will bring ME in for the ENTIRE WARDROBE for Marissa's upcoming full calender shoot.
If I am chosen for wardrobe, that mean 12 looks, casual, swimwear, ingerie looks... all designed by mee and made by mee with my name alll overrr itt!

Oh and of couuurse my names all up on these few beginning pieces;D

So far, the agency is very pleased with the photos they've already received and now are just waiting on the physical designs.....

Can't waaait to hear more! I'll keep ya'll posted!

Do What You Love

So I've been at this designing gig for a while now. Make that 9yrs. And it's not the easiest thing in the world to get spotted, I'm sure many of my fellow fashion designers can understand where I'm coming from. The fashion industry isn't as glamorous as the magazines make it out to be.

From the time I started sewing and decided this is what I want to do with my life, my father always tried to convince me otherwise. "Designing fashion isn't going to pay the bills". He'd always try to get me to get into engineering, or plastic manufacturing, chemistry...the boring non creative stuff that forces me to apply my brain juuust a little bit more than I'd like to! Besides, in all honesty, it doesn't interest me, one bit. All that scientificall stuffs just goes in one ear and right out the other, doesnt even reach the brain!

I was always more of a creative chick. All my sibblings do sports all throughout highschool, and major in a chemistry area or engineering feilds. It was never my thing. While all my sibbling played soccer after school, I was in the drama club room making costumes, or taking sewing lessons 3hrs a day after school. However! In my own defense! I did tryout out for the soccer team...buuut didnt make it sadly:( and from then on forward... It became undoubtibly obvious, I was meant for the more creative activites.

I've put in everything since what seems like forever into fashion designing. I remember thinking that being an "actress" was what I wanted to do with my life. And while it was fun while it lasted, something else just took ahold of my heart. People hear this and tell me I'm "crazyy". But to me, it was the best decission I've ever made in my life. Probably one of the only decissions I've made that I'm proud of. I mean, suuure, I miss goin into NYC everyday for auditions, I miss getting my call-backs and getting booked cuz I was suuuch a cuute lil girl;) And yeahh, the paychecks were saaaweeeet, but it just didnt spark my heart the way threading up my sewing machine would. At least I can say, I did do something with acting, it was an overall success for me, booked/filmed many commercials and got paid for doing it too! But it's nothing compared to my true love.

When you have a dream of making into a particularly difficult industry..and it's not just the fashion industry, it could be music, entertainment, sports.. its not always a straight, fast, easy path to get there. It can be discouraging at sometimes, even seem impossible. My best piece of advice:

Do what you love and don't give up on it.

Ive been doing what I love for 9 years and I havent' quit, stopped or given up. I'm telling you, sooner or later, your hard work, for something you LOVE, it will pay off.

Now, in fashion design, getting noticed is haaard. It can take years and years sometimes. However nowadays, networking makes this a tad bit simpler. I feel I've recently discovered this.

Im consider myself pretty computer savvy, but when it comes to social networking, that's where my knowledge starts depleating. Along with the lack of knowlege, I've also been very cautious bout social networking. My family is always telling me, as soon as i post a design, that someone will steal it. And quite frankly, it's discouraging. It's probably more of the reason as to why I wouldnt get into social networking my "business sorta thing".

I've finally abandonned this scared thinking. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get ahead in life, even if that means taking a few risks along the way. Well heres my first risk!

My FIRST step, well I guess technically second considering this blog would be step #1, was to set up a instagram account.
